NIX Solutions: Meta’s Smart Glasses Sales Grow in 2024

Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced that 1 million pairs of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses were sold in 2024, with projections to increase sales to 2 million or even 5 million pairs in 2025. Meanwhile, EssilorLuxottica, the manufacturer of these smart glasses, reported that 2 million units have been sold since the product’s launch in October 2023. The company now aims to ramp up production to 10 million pairs per year by the end of 2026.

Expanding Production and Long-Term Partnership

EssilorLuxottica CEO and Chairman Francesco Milleri emphasized that smart glasses are set to become a primary digital platform for everyday use. During the company’s 2024 financial results call, he confirmed the 2 million sales milestone. This figure likely excludes sales of the earlier Ray-Ban Stories model, which debuted in 2021.

Milleri also highlighted the company’s commitment to a long-term partnership with Meta, positioning Ray-Ban Meta glasses as a “shared platform” open to third-party brands. This aligns with reports that Meta is preparing to introduce smart glasses under the Oakley brand, which is also owned by EssilorLuxottica.

To support these developments, the company is expanding its production capacity to reach 10 million units annually by late 2026, adds NIX Solutions. Milleri also suggested that future Meta glasses will incorporate AI-powered features, potentially including a subscription-based model.
