Anthropic’s AI application Claude has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing $1 million in revenue from its iOS and Android mobile apps after 16 weeks on the market. According to mobile app analytics company Appfigures, nearly half of Claude’s revenue came from users in the United States. While this is a notable achievement, Claude still lags behind its primary competitor, ChatGPT, in terms of overall performance.
Market Performance and Comparison
Despite reaching the $1 million revenue mark, Claude’s rankings in app stores remain relatively low compared to ChatGPT. OpenAI’s iOS app ranks first in total downloads and 26th in revenue in the U.S., while Claude ranks 95th in the Productivity category by downloads and 68th in revenue within the same category.
The Claude mobile app initially received a lukewarm response, with 157,000 global downloads in its first week. In contrast, ChatGPT was downloaded 480,000 times in just five days following its U.S. launch on iOS. Claude’s highest position in the U.S. free iOS app rankings was #55, achieved shortly after its release.
However, Claude has managed to reach its first million in revenue faster than some other AI app competitors, notes NIXSOLUTIONS. While it falls behind ChatGPT, which took only three weeks to hit the $1 million mark, Claude outpaced Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity, which took 19 and 22 weeks respectively to achieve the same milestone.
Global Market Distribution
The United States represents Claude’s largest market, accounting for 32.5% of downloads, followed by India (9.6%), Japan (6.8%), the UK (5.1%), and Germany (3.2%). These five markets collectively make up 57.2% of Claude’s mobile app installs.
In terms of monetization, the U.S. market generates the most revenue (48.4%), followed by Japan (6.7%), Germany (4.3%), the UK (4.3%), and South Korea (2.8%). Together, these countries account for 66.8% of Claude’s mobile app revenue.
