OpenAI is considered one of the main players in the market for generative artificial intelligence systems, but not many quantitative characteristics of its success are known. According to The Information, OpenAI management recently admitted that the company’s annualized revenue reaches $3.4 billion, up from $1.6 billion at the end of last year.
Revenue Dynamics and Growth
This indicator is calculated by multiplying monthly revenue by 12, therefore, taking into account the growth of revenue during the year, it may not reflect the real size of annual revenue, but in this case, the dynamics themselves are important. In just six months, OpenAI was able to double its annual revenue. For comparison, last summer this figure was close to $1 billion. This means that over the past twelve months, OpenAI’s revenue has grown almost three and a half times.
Strategic Partnerships and Financial Developments
These values were revealed during a speech by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman at a recent company staff meeting. OpenAI receives approximately $3.2 billion in annualized revenue from providing its services to clients directly, and the company is able to receive another $200 million per year through cooperation with Microsoft Azure. The startup’s capitalization was estimated at $86 billion in the current half of the year.
The company recently hired chief financial officer Sarah Friar, although the position had been vacant for two years in a row, adds NIX Solutions. Experts believe that this may indicate OpenAI’s desire to increase financial returns from developing its business, as well as the possibility of the company preparing for a public offering of shares.
