NIXsolutions: Firefox 128 Update – Privacy and New Features

The Firefox browser has long been considered one of the most private browsers because its developers opposed the collection of users’ personal data. However, in the latest update, Mozilla has added the collection of personal data, although it claims that users still have nothing to worry about.

Interoperable Private Attribution (IPA)

With Firefox updating to version 128, the browser introduced Interoperable Private Attribution (IPA) technology, allowing advertisers to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns based on user actions. Mozilla says it uses cryptographic mechanisms to protect users so that their personal information is not disclosed, notes NIXsolutions.

“First, in the absence of alternatives, advertisers have enormous economic incentives to try to circumvent these countermeasures, resulting in a constant arms race that we may not win. Secondly, this approach only helps those people who choose Firefox, and we want to improve privacy for everyone,” said the CTO of Firefox.

User Control Over Data Collection

If you wish, you can disable the new feature. To do this, open the browser menu (the button with three lines in the upper right corner) → “Settings” → “Privacy & Security” → “Allow websites to measure ads while maintaining privacy.” We’ll keep you updated on any further changes to Firefox’s privacy features.
