Microsoft has launched a new beta for the Xbox Game Pass Standard subscription, which costs $1. This plan is intended to replace the existing Game Pass for consoles. The new plan includes the standard library of Game Pass games for Xbox, as well as online play on consoles. However, it does not provide instant access to games on the day they launch.
The Trial and Future Pricing
Xbox Insiders can take advantage of the Xbox Game Pass Standard subscription for $1 during the trial period. “Renewals during the preview period will also cost $1 per month,” said Megan Spurr, senior community manager for Xbox Game Pass. Once the full launch of this subscription tier, the cost will be $14.99 per month.
Game Availability and Future Updates
Microsoft also clarified when day-of games and other titles will become available on the Standard plan. “Some games added to Game Pass Ultimate (release day or other games) will not be available in Game Pass Standard immediately and may be added to the library at a later date (over 12 months or more, depending on the game),” Spurr added. We’ll keep you updated on any changes to the availability of games on the Standard plan.
Microsoft first announced the new Xbox Game Pass Standard subscription tier in July, alongside price increases for Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. Xbox Game Pass Standard is expected to launch in the “coming months.” Existing Xbox Game Pass for Console subscribers will be able to continue to use their subscription, but new subscribers will no longer be able to select the console option until the new Game Pass Standard tier is made available to a wider audience, notes NIX Solutions.
The introduction of the Xbox Game Pass Standard subscription represents a significant shift in Microsoft’s gaming ecosystem. By offering a more affordable option while maintaining the core Game Pass experience, the company aims to expand its reach and provide more flexibility for gamers. As the new tier rolls out, we’ll continue to monitor any updates and changes to ensure you have the most up-to-date information.
